xenobiology and genetics department.

MISSION STATEMENT:
The Xenobiology and Genetics (Xenogen) department is a research team that focuses on the physical and metaphysical properties of existence for all beings on board the Tranquility. Passengers who require assistance with preternatural ability, genetic afflictions, or otherwise are in need of scientific investigation and therapy regarding any superhuman characteristic are welcome to attend the Xenogen department.
Experts from all corners of reality may be recruited, with an emphasis on open-mindedness. Hard science backgrounds are welcome so long as they are given to understand that magic is a legitimate framework both in other dimensions as well as on board the Tranquility. By the same token, magic users are expected to work alongside scientists. The Xenogen department believes that a cooperation between different backgrounds is the only way to progress in an environment that intersects these frameworks.
The Xenogen department, given the expertise of its researchers, will also investigate any Tranquility-specific phenomena that occur, and will frequently work with other departments to better understand the nature of our shared environment.

When the file is completed, please CLOSE it in the status, and write a brief (or lengthy, we won't stop you) summary as to conclusion and attach as a comment.
REQUEST ASSISTANCE:
This form is for anyone who is not a part of Xenogen but would like to utilise them as a resource.
The kind of help they are known to provide is diverse, but can involve anything like managing your superhuman abilities or magical powers, identifying or investigating the specifics about your species/mutation/etc, medical problems that would not come under the portfolio of the Medical Bay, identifying strange substances or items as discovered in lockers, querying about ship-related phenomena, and so on. All of these can be investigated through magical or scientific methodology, or both.
This should be considered an IC mechanism. You can also volunteer other people for this intervention-style, so long as it's fine with them OOCly.
Your task will be delegated to a member of Xenogen, who will be in contact with you.
TERRITORY:
The Xenogen department headquarters are located on level three of the Science Department. Offices, workspace including laboratories and all associated equipment are available there for all members to use. Unless otherwise noted, all xenogen work takes place here. It is spacious and prepared to host whatever any given project might need.

The former xenobiology and genetics laboratories have fallen into disuse since an unknown attack blasted its contents to oblivion. Prior to that incident, the area was already in poor condition, and SEC has advised the Xenogen staff that the it is unsafe to spend any amount of time in due to being disconnected to the ship's main power grid, and also due to past infestation of Manticores.
As of the jump cycle of July 2014, the old genetics labs have seemingly vanished altogether. Any attempts to enter it will find characters looped back to the main laboratories.

DESCRIPTION: Attempting to force cooperation of the ship's interference to allow teleportation through areas consisting of 'unstable physics'.
STATUS: CLOSED
CLEARANCE LEVEL: Standard, but he's not exactly checking in at HQ with regular updates since it's just him working on it.
NOTES: Apparating and use of portkeys are capable on the ship but the limitations are possibly arbitrary and do not function properly in indicated areas; conjuring is also occasionally disrupted. Investigation into circumventing roadblocks.
Ongoing.After over half a year of screwing around with this, Severus has decided to close any official investigation. Verdict: It is a bad idea to try and teleport through unknown areas of the ship.

DESCRIPTION: Under the alias of Jack Davis, the subject is a trained assassin who has undergone extensive brainwashing and mental programming that puts at risk anyone that compromises his secrecy.
STATUS: CLOSED
CLEARANCE LEVEL: Classified
NOTES: After launching an elaborate terrorist attack with the aim of destroying Charles Xavier (on account of compromising his secrecy), the Winter Soldier was detained in the brig. The line of command that triggers violent problem solving in wake of being discovered has been telepathically cancelled. Lacks identity and self-determination, and is still a danger to himself and to others.
He requires psychic monitoring and counselling, with the aim to restore his sense of identity.
Attached are some audio files of interviews, ranging from conversational to hard to follow, as therapies list towards utilising telepathy rather than only talking. There are briefings for Xavier's own reference about what goes on during these periods, such as memories, triggers, and observations, such as that other trauma besides brainwashing created amnesia.
The Winter Soldier is due for a brain scan.
File closed with Xavier's current retirement from telepathy based therapies. The Winter Soldier is a matter that is handed back to Security, with psychic monitoring conducted by Cassandra Anderson.

DESCRIPTION: After the field trip to the Arima mining colony and the implications of deliberate mental compulsion coming from the ship itself, they've been looking into the phenomenon. While it's an overarching thing, the focal point has been the Arima incident.

DESCRIPTION: John Sheppard is experiencing an alien transformation from a bite he received in his home universe. This was triggered as a result of influence from Melkor/Mairon before the Arima event, rendering him temporarily mindless with beast-like instinct before his coherence was restored. Physical changes remain while mental changes are dormant, but present. He has approached Xenogen, looking for a cure.

NOTES: An antiserum from the embryos of Itarus bugs has been developed in his homeworld to reverse the effects. Lacking this resource, we'll have to get creative.
Recent notes left behind by Xavier includes a standard run of sample collecting and analyses, and some paperwork surrounding the theory of using Sheppard's own human DNA as a serum to counter alien transformation. It probably won't work on its own, elsewise people back at Sheppard's world would have cracked it, but it's a start.

DESCRIPTION: Subject is infected with a "zombie" virus, which could present a danger to her as well as her fellow passengers. Attempts are being made to study this virus and develop countermeasures.

NOTES: So far, it appears that the nanites (present in each passenger aboard the Tranquility) are keeping the subject's infection at bay, as well as preventing it from spreading to other passengers. Further research is needed to confirm.

* Current goal is to get Rogue into psychic therapy to work on shielding and fortifying her mind from the other voices that have invaded due to having touched people; hypothesis is that if she has better control of her own head and confidence that this will promote easier control of her ability. As she won't work with Xavier, possibly looping Nuala into things.

Updates:
Hypothesis 1: it was all a mass hallucination and the nanites caused the physical damage passengers suffered, effectively 'self inflicted'
Hypothesis 2: the monsters were manifested via an unknown power (similar to magic conjuring or transfiguration) and thus the blood samples aren't 'real'.
As of the 34th jump (August 2014), these particular blood samples have vanished; the apparatus they were being held in remains, all the notes remain, the blood's just gone. Older samples of manticore blood from past incidents remain.
As of the 34th jump (August 2014), Severus has stepped out of the project now that magical testing is complete, and handed it over to Odessa and Samantha to pursue at their discretion.

DESCRIPTION: Equipment and workstations that were not previously a part of level three are resolving into reality. This file is for inventorying them and determining their purposes.
STATUS: CLOSED
CLEARANCE LEVEL: Standard
NOTES: Timing wise, this occurred after the power outages and mural happenings towards the latter half of Jump Cycle 36. The science department continues to be plagued by strange black shadowy happenings on the walls, which disappear and reappear at random.
At an early guess, Xavier notes that the appearing equipment seems to be related to microbiology, and probably, nanotechnology work.
Latest is that all equipment is now identified (as seen in red on this page) and there hasn't been anything new for the last couple of cycles. It has been arranged and labelled and probably not made use of, at this time. The case file is closed, but can be reopened if more happens.
The containment rooms on level two that appeared around the same time have been tested, along with some reinforced gurneys. The blood found on the latter come back as human blood, with a strange animal mix, and some, particularly the more damaged ones, will come back with a mix of both or even more than one of each type of sample. The containment chambers have scratches and grooves inside. All of this is consistent with the notion of manticore experimentation and creation.

This case file is to record as many occurrences as possible and profile each sample, and then try to run comparisons and conduct cross references to find out where they came from and why we're being given them.

DESCRIPTION: Castiel is an angel, who is suffering from a world-specific ailment related to his being cut off from 'Heaven', which means a quality known only as 'Grace' (a stand in for his lack of soul) is depleting at a rapid rate. He claims that once it is gone, it will kill him; an inevitability that he would like Xenogen to slow.
STATUS: OPEN
CLEARANCE LEVEL: Classified, for sake of privacy.
NOTES: Castiel describes 'Grace' as an inherent part of him, and without it, he will perish. While it depletes, he experiences lethargy. Use of his magical abilities depletes it at a more rapid rate. His previous time onboard the Tranquility allowed him to sleep to regain Grace, but upon his return, this is no longer the case.
Grace = magical energy? Perhaps Emma Swan, who is a source of magical energy, could be of assistance.
